This is Harry. He's a European Eagle Owl, with a wingspan of 180cm (that's nearly 6 feet in old money). He was adopted in August 2008. When he arrived at his new home he had not been handled but now sits happily, if slightly unsteadily, on a perch or arm. He is a gentle soul and at 24 years old would be considered middle aged.
Harry and his friends once again joined us for The Jackdaw festival this year. Kathy, the owls' human friend, enjoys taking her feathered pals to various venues and shows in East Anglia, teaching adults and children alike about birds of prey in general and more specifically owls and their behaviour. Kathy says: "The owls’ good natures provide a unique opportunity for you to have an up‐close encounter with birds normally only seen at a distance and behind fencing."
